Cairns Showgrounds will host a new music festival for young people
Cairns Showgrounds will host the Sounds Bout Right youth music festival on May 1, with the Cairns Regional Council providing $25,000 to support the organization of the event.
Sounds Bout Right is a new music festival targeting young people in Cairns and featuring contemporary artists such as What So Not, Boy & Bear and The Veronicas, has won support from the Council.
Approximately 5,000 people are expected to attend the event, more than a quarter of which are expected to come from outside the region, which will inject more than $1.1 million into the local economy.
Organizers, Hand Picked Events, have been putting on The Grass is Greener concerts in Cairns since 2016, with over 6,464 attendees at last year’s event and an economic benefit of $1.34 million for the city.
Sounds Bout Right took place on the Gold Coast in January 2021 and despite COVID-19 restrictions and border closures, over 3,400 people attended the event.
